In 2007, Matthew developed a program for Alan Mascord Design Associates that detailed any of the company’s 500+ stock home plans or custom home plans to be built more energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable.  The program is specifically geared towards achieving certification through the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED for Homes program or the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) National Green Building Program.

 

With AMDA selling thousands of stock home plans a year, the mascord efficient living program was an opportunity to make a large scale change in how the standard American home is built.

Along with the program, Matthew coauthored a book titled “mascord efficient living”.  It is an introduction to green building philosophies, techniques, and materials as well as sustainable lifestyle choices.  The book was sponsored by Google Sketchup and the Whirlpool Corporation and includes a foreword by Sarah Susanka of “The Not So Big House” fame.
